The Scottish Borders has it all: sweeping scenery, quiet roads and breathtaking views, but it’s the rich history that makes it a truly special place - with echoes of its turbulent past seeped into the landscape: turn a corner and you’ll stumble upon an ancient ruined castle, another twist of the road and you’ll be in front of a mediaeval abbey. It’s a playground for history enthusiasts and cyclists alike.

4 Abbeys Cycling Route

Start the day with a hearty breakfast at Bowden House B&B, before heading out on the 56-mile circular path that connects the four main abbeys in the Scottish Borders: Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso, and Jedburgh. The 4 Abbeys Cycling Route mainly follows tranquil roads (although there are a few unavoidable ‘A’ roads), but it’s well worth it for the picturesque views and tour of the magnificent abbeys of Scotland. It’s a moderately difficult route, with a few uphill stretches, so why not hire an e-bike to take the load off? We’ve partnered with Borders Ebike Hire to give everyone the chance to experience this stunning part of Scotland.

Megget and Talla Route

The 55-mile Megget and Talla Route is a captivating circular cycling trail starting in Innerleithen. This medium-grade route promises awe-inspiring views of the Borders' magnificent countryside and is full of remnants of ancient castles and ruins of its turbulent borderland past. With a duration of approximately 3 to 5 hours and a climbing elevation of 1432 meters, this route guarantees an unforgettable adventure, with options to hire e-bikes if you want an easier ride.

Whether you’re planning a cycling holiday in Scotland or want to explore what the Scottish Borders has to offer, Bowden House B&B is on hand to facilitate your adventure. Make your journey a smooth and unforgettable one by staying over at Bowden House B&B, with a hearty breakfast and luggage transfer, you just need to enjoy the ride!
